After months of reporting on the progress of a multi-district virtual charter school proposal, I reported and wrote a three-day series examining the merits of the proposal itself, the powerful players bringing it forward and the legislative activism by local school districts opposing it. The series included photos, charts and sidebars. I also appeared on ABC7 Chicago to discuss the story.

Two out of five board members of the group proposing to open this charter school resigned after I wrote these stories. The state legislature ultimately approved a one-year moratorium on virtual charter schools and, after first arguing the moratorium didn’t apply to its proposal, the group withdrew its appeal to the State Charter School Commission.
